3. Working Principle & Crystallization
Creating a hot-fill bottle alters the standard two-stage process. Preforms undergo an extended thermal soak in the infrared oven, increasing the crystallinity of the PET polymer chains. Once inside the blow mold, hot oil or specialized heating mediums circulate through the mold walls (rather than chilled water). This process “heat-sets” the plastic, erasing thermal memory.
