How It Works

One-Step ISM Process: Three Stations, One Continuous Cycle

The ISM (Injection Blow Molding) process integrates preform injection, blow molding and bottle ejection onto a single rotating machine. All three stations operate simultaneously — so output rate is governed only by injection time, not the sum of all three stages.

Preform Injection — Station 1

Plastic is injected into the mold under controlled pressure. The bottle neck, thread and preform geometry are formed here. After the mold opens, the mandrel rotates 120° to Station 2 via the precision angle divider.

Blow Molding — Station 2

The hot preform is inflated by compressed air through the mandrel core. The blow mold cavity determines final bottle shape, diameter and height. The mold opens and the turret advances to Station 3.

Ejection and Conveying — Station 3

Finished bottles are stripped and discharged onto the conveyor. Since all three stations run in parallel, one complete set of bottles is produced every cycle — no deflashing, no reheating, no trimming required.

What is an ISM machine?

An ISM machine (Injection Blow Molding machine, also called IBM machine) is a one-step hollow container forming machine. It combines preform injection, blow molding and bottle ejection in a single three-station rotating machine. Unlike EBM (Extrusion Blow Molding), the IBM process produces zero flash, uniform wall thickness and a precision-formed neck thread — making it the standard equipment choice for pharmaceutical and cosmetic container production where neck accuracy is mandatory.

What is the difference between ISM and ISBM machines?

ISM (IBM) inflates the preform directly without a stretch rod — used for PP, HDPE, LDPE, PS, PCTG containers in pharmaceutical, cosmetic and daily chemical applications. ISBM adds an axial stretch rod before blowing, enabling biaxial molecular orientation — used for PET water, juice and CSD bottles. EVER POWER manufactures both. What materials can EVER POWER ISM machines process?

The EP135 with 6+N barrel zones and 70mm screw at 22:1 L/D also processes PC and PETG engineering resins. Confirm material compatibility with our team before ordering for non-standard compounds.

How do I select the correct ISM machine model?

Three calculations: (1) Total shot weight needed = preform weight × cavities — must be below the model injection weight. (2) Required cavities = target output per hour ÷ (3600 ÷ cycle time). (3) Mold platen fit — your cavity array must fit within the model maximum platen size. Can the ISM machine meet pharmaceutical GMP requirements?

Yes. The one-step IBM process keeps the container in a closed cycle — no inter-machine transfer, no contamination risk.
